PREP SOFTBALL
Kelland shuts out El Centro-Central
The Gila Ridge softball team's ace Nikki Kelland had her best outing of the year as the Hawks shut out El Centro-Central 6-0 on Friday afternoon.
Kelland threw a complete game two-hitter and went 2 for 3 with two runs at the plate in the win.
The senior struck out only two but kept Central's bats in check all day.
“She kept the ball in the infield and let her defense work,” Gila Ridge coach Jaime McGalliard said.
Kaelin Fox also went 2 for 3 with two runs and added two RBIs for the Hawks, who improved to 3-1 on the season.
Raiders blank Kings
Syndi Lankford threw a four-hitter as Cibola's softball team shut out Kofa 9-0 on Friday.
Bethany Olea drove in two runs for the Raiders while Alexis Evans had two doubles and an RBI. Amanda Hernandez had a hit and drove in a run and Hannah Lackey was 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Hawk girls top Crims
The Gila Ridge girls tennis team picked up an 8-1 win on Thursday against Yuma High.
Katyln Jones, Taylor McKenna, Alice Fiddler and Breanna Sparks had solo wins for the Hawks. Andre Urquidez had a hard-fought 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 win over Michala Weick for the lone Yuma High win.
