ON DECK: Potential playoff problem for Yankees
The Yankees may have to travel 3,000 miles after the season is over for a one-game wild card showdown against a team many people thought wouldn't win 70 games this year.
Then, should they win that game, they may have to travel 3,000 back across country for a best-of-five series against a team no one thought would win 65 games. And the AL East division champions, to boot.
When the new playoff system was designed, Bud Selig and its creators knew there would be some tough travel schedules. They knew some teams would be hurt.
But I bet they never in a million years thought the Yankees would fall victim to the expanded playoffs. Which I have to say is pretty darned hilarious. Becuase, like every person who is not in the Bronx or not a front-runner, I don't like the Yankees that much.
What's sad is I still don't doubt the Yankees would win in the above scenario. Which is too bad.
