About the teams
The Arizona Western Matadors
• They have won three straight Western States Football League titles.
• They are 5-0 this year against nationally ranked teams.
• Quarterback Cameron Coffman finished with the best interception-to-touchdown ratio (17-to-5) in the WSFL.
• The defense finished fifth in the country in total defense.
• D.J. Johnson had six punt returns for touchdowns this year.
The East Mississippi Lions
• They almost missed out on this game, but scored 35 unanswered points in the second half to beat No. 5 Mississippi Gulf Coast for a second time this year in the conference championship game.
• They led the country in total offense, scoring 54 in their first two games total, then not scoring less than 41 in any one game the rest of the season.
• Despite their nation-best passing attack, running back Rodriguez Moore ran for 1,196 yards this year.
• Five receivers had 40 or more catches and four had more than 580 yards.
About the game
Pregame
• Gates open at noon, kickoff is 2:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium on the campus of Gila Ridge High School.
• Prep football players from Yuma High, Kofa, Cibola and Gila Ridge will compete in a contest featuring punting, passing and kicking. Competitors are from the Criminals: David Stiles, Matt Arellano, James Gomez and Chance Hamilton; from the Kings: Gustavo Reyes, Burton Bennett, Kwame Blevins, Carlos Caratachea and Ben Contreras; from the Raiders: Jacob Gauna, Austin Olaiz, Deante Gaines, Brody Arviso, Manny Zazueta, Julio Castanon; and from the Hawks: Mike Castro, Brandon Kehl, Scotty Nickerson, Austin Gregory, Robbie Mecham, Chris Quintero, Jesus Pina and Austin Moore.
• The San Luis, Yuma High, Cibola and Gila Ridge marching bands will perform.
• There will be a flyover courtesy of MCAS Yuma.
• The members of the AWC 1972 national championship team that were inducted into the school's Hall of Fame will be recognized.
• The Yuma Proving Ground Military Free Fall School will parachute the game ball onto the field.
• There will be multiple displays from the military.
• Fans will have the chance to sign up for the Time Warner Cable Go Long contest.
Halftime
• The winner of the TWC drawing will have the chance to throw a football 25 yards through a target. If successful, the winner will receive $250,000.
• The East Mississippi marching band will perform, as will high school, EMCC and AWC cheer squads.
Postgame
• There will be a on-field ceremony to present the championship and runner-up trophies.
• Officials will name offensive and defensive MVPs.
