Former Yuma Catholic golfer R.J. Wood shot a second-round 69 on Tuesday in the second round of the 88th Arizona Amateur Championship at Gallery Golf Club.
Wood shot into 11th place with his 3-under round to finish at a 142 heading into the 64-golfer match play portion of the tourney, which begins today.
Two other Yuma golfers qualified for match play as well. Martin Salgado, who will be competing in the U.S. Amateur later this month, had a 3-over 147. Yuma Catholic golfer Grady Bourguignon shot a 145.
Five Yuma golfers competed but did not finish in the top 64 — Kyle Curtis (152), Joey Pickels (153), Ron Wood (154), Max Coffeen (160) and Daniel Celaya (160).

Regional play begins for Yuma West
The 13-14 Yuma West Little League team begins their journey through the Junior League Western Regionals today.
YYL will square off against Alaska in pool play at 7 p.m. in Vancouver, WA.
They will face Northern California at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Utah at 4 p.m. on Friday and Hawaii at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
