More than 20 tamale vendors took part in the first-ever Tamale Festival in Somerton on Dec. 15, 2007. It benefited the El Diablito Arizona State University fund for first-generation college students who have graduated from Yuma County high schools.
The 2009 Tamale Festival brought hudreds to Somerton to enjoy this favorite holiday dish. The annual festival raises money for loca scholarships to Arizona State University.
