About to get wider

Construction equipment (left) is seen Monday morning in the early stages of work on Phase 1 of the U.S. 95 widening project, working on the west side of the existing highway between Avenue 12E and Avenue 11E as southbound traffic that includes motorhomes, semi trucks and other vehicles makes its way along the existing two lanes. Phase 1 will widen the highway from Avenue 9E to Rifle Range Road, a distance of about 3 1/2 miles, and is expected to be completed in November 2022. Phase 2 will widen the highway from Rifle Range Road to the Wellton Mohawk Canal bridge. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, Phase 2 is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2022 with completion expected in the summer of 2023. The long range plan is to widen the highway all the way from Avenue 9E to Aberdeen Road at Yuma Proving Ground. Contractor for the project is Fann Contracting Inc., out of Prescott.
