Big Boy on the Bridge

Engineer Ed Dickens waves at the crowd gathered on the Ocean to Ocean Highway Bridge as the Union Pacific Railroad's historic Big Boy steam locomotive NO. 4014 rumbles across the train bridge over the Colorado River, arriving in Yuma for a stayover Tuesday afternoon. Union Pacific’s historic Big Boy is touring the Union Pacific system throughout 2019 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad's completion. According to www.up.com/heritage/steam, the Big Boy’s return to the rails is the product of more than two years of meticulous restoration work by the Union Pacific Steam Team. No. 4014 is the world's only operating Big Boy locomotive. The Big Boy is scheduled to depart Yuma at 8 a.m. today, bound for its next stop in Casa Grande. The tour will end Nov. 27 where it started, in Cheyenne, Wyo.
