U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a Somerton man for allegedly trying to smuggle almost 62 pounds of methamphetamine through the San Luis port of entry.
On Tuesday morning, officers referred the 21-year-old man for additional inspection of his Nissan sedan as he was trying to enter the country from Mexico.
While searching the vehicle, officers reportedly found 50 packages of drugs hidden within the floorboards, as well as the dashboard.
The drugs were identified as nearly 62 pounds of methamphetamine, worth more than $55,000.
Officers seized the drugs and the vehicle, while the suspect was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
