Drive-through Promotion

Fifty-five sixth-graders at Orange Grove Elementary School in Somerton received their certificates of promotion Tuesday and Wednesday in a drive-through ceremony on campus. The students, who will go on to junior high in the fall, remained in their family vehicles as part of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Among the local dignitaries taking part in the ceremony were Carlos Gonzalez, a Somerton City Council member and member of the Somerton Elementary School District governing board; fellow governing board member Juan Castillo, and Somerton Mayor Gerardo Anaya. Yuma Lumber Co. donated school uniforms for next year to the 10 most academically outstanding students among all those promoted.
