Gila Ridge High School’s varsity cheerleading spirit squad returned home from their first national competition as the seventh-best team in the nation.
Led by their coach, Sarah Dains, the team competed in the Small Co-Ed Varsity Show Cheer Advanced division of the 2020 USA Spirit Nationals held in Anaheim, Calif., Feb. 14-16.
The Hawks performed twice for the judges with no point deductions and made the cut to perform in the finals, where they once again finished with no deductions.
“It was a tough and tight competition,” Dains said. “Only 0.3 points separated seventh place from fourth place. We couldn’t be prouder of our kids and how they performed this weekend.”
