Fire in Roll

The Tamarack Cafe & Tavern, located at 4855 Avenue 38E in Roll, was destroyed by a fire late Wednesday night.

A late-night fire destroyed the Tamarack Cafe & Tavern in Roll on Wednesday, according to information provided by the Wellton Volunteer Fire Department.

The fire at the bar, which was located at 4855 Avenue 38E, broke out at approximately 10:38 p.m., with Wellton firefighters responding to the location as part of a mutual aid request from Tacna Fire, to assist with a structure fire.

When Wellton firefighters arrived on scene they came upon a building fully engulfed in flames and endangering other properties, including a nearby tire shop and several buildings to the west.

Firefighters from both agencies worked together to fully extinguish the fire. The building was a total loss. There was no one in the building at the time of the fire.

"It was after hours. The business had closed for the night," said Battalion Chief David Rodriguez, of the Wellton Fire Department. "It was an older building, so it went up fast. The only thing left are the brick walls."

The cause of the fire is unknown but under investigation by Tacna Fire and the Rural/Metro Fire Department.

Tri-Valley Ambulance, the Wellton-Mohawk Irrigation and Drainage District and the Yuma County Sheriff's Office also responded.
