Two people were treated at the scene and one was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center following a three-vehicle collision caused by what the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office says was a distracted driver using a cell phone at the time.
According to YCSO spokesperson Lt. Samuel Pavlak, at approximately 12:44 p.m. deputies responded to a three-vehicle collision in the intersection of Avenue 3E and 32nd Street.
The investigation at the scene revealed that a blue Ford Mustang was travelling westbound on 32nd Street and failed to stop for the red light, colliding with a tan Jeep Grand Cherokee that was travelling northbound on Avenue 3E, and a tan Nissan Frontier that was travelling southbound on Avenue 3E.
The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center for minor injuries. The drivers of the Ford Mustang and the Nissan Frontier sustained minor injuries as well and were treated on scene.
During the collision investigation, it was discovered that the driver of the Ford Mustang was distracted with a cell phone at the time of the crash – and was issued a citation.
The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office would like to encourage all citizens to be safe while on the roadways and not operate their cell phones or other electronic devices while operating their vehicles, Pavlak said.
