Yuma’s infamous heat arrived this week, so let’s talk about snow.
It always amazes me — in a fun way — when native Arizonans share that they have never actually seen snow. Never. Ever. Having grown up where it was practically a local call to Santa, it’s hard to believe that folks in this country have reached their 30s or 40s without making a snow angel, building a snow fort ... or getting schmucked in the face with a snowball.
I love telling my stories of being in bed, all wrapped up in blankets, and scratching my nails against a covering of frost on the INSIDE of the window. Now that’s cold. It must be hard for desert natives to imagine.
So, to be honest, all those stories of the gloriously cold snow also include all the downsides and dangers of the seemingly picture perfect white stuff.
I think I’ll stick to making sand angels.
