The smartphone is among the possible inductees this year into the National Toy Hall of Fame, according to the Associated Press.
Other finalists, AP reports, are: Care Bears, the coloring book, Fisher-Price Corn Popper, Jenga, Magic the Gathering, Masters of the Universe, Matchbox cars, My Little Pony, Nerf Blaster, Risk, and the top.
The smartphone sure seems out of place on this list, but officials at the National Toy Hall of Fame in Rochester, N.Y. say its nomination is deserved.
It “has dramatically changed how people of all ages play and connect,” Christopher Bensch, vice president for collections, told the AP.
Well, I for one, am rooting against the party-crashing smartphone and putting my money on the addictive Corn Popper, which I still can’t resist.
In case you’re wondering, last year’s honorees were the Magic 8 Ball, pinball and Uno.
Now, those are toys!
