Fall is synonymous with harvest time in Yuma. The nights begin to cool down, our winter visitors start to arrive, and our agriculture begins to flourish. Between the lettuce, cotton, dates, and wheat, Yuma’s winter harvest is in full bloom.

Many of us are experiencing personal “harvest years.” We’ve worked hard. Now is the time to reap the rewards of what we’ve sown and create lasting memories to be cherished for years to come. We want to live each day in the moment and live without regret. Our goal is a bountiful harvest for our loved ones and ourselves.

Seventy-five elders in Yuma were asked what they would change if they could live their life over again. First, they said they would take more risks – you know, eat more ice cream and less yogurt, apply for that job, and invest in that business. Second, they said they would work harder on developing and maintaining healthy family relationships. And finally, they said they would establish a legacy by which they could be remembered.

The legacy that we leave could be established through memories, time, or our resources. Harvest time provides an opportunity to reflect on meaningful ways that we can create a lasting legacy. What will be your legacy? Perhaps you will decide to make a difference by participating in your community, making a gift to your favorite charity, and/or spending more time with those you love. Whatever you choose let this time of harvest inspire you to think about creating your lasting legacy.

During the 12-month period ending March 31, 2018, the Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma awarded nearly $500,000 in grants and scholarships through the competitive grants process and through the advice of donors who have established funds with ACF of Yuma. Since inception, ACF of Yuma has awarded more than $8 million in total grants and scholarships to nonprofit organizations, schools, and students from Yuma County.

Your gifts to our local community grow our collective capacity to empower youth, promote literacy, assure the comfort and dignity of our seniors, provide social services and health care to those in need, sustain our environment, and promote the arts. Together, we can create our legacies by doing even more for our communities.

Yuma County is a place of inspiring history, beautiful sunsets, and amazing Yumans. At the Arizona Community Foundation of Yuma, we believe there is great joy in giving. Whatever it is you love most about our home, we want to help you find a way to make it last for generations.
