Whether one agrees or disagrees with Jon Stewart of the former “Daily Show” on matters of a political nature, he was absolutely correct in calling out members of Congress recently with regards to continued funding to aid ailing 9/11 first responders.
Stewart’s passionate plea during a Capitol Hill hearing, in which a significant number of congressional members were absent, only served to highlight the misplaced priorities among our elected representatives. With 9/11 responders well represented in the audience, some there to speak, Stewart took up the fight to ensure that funds would continue for these brave men and women for decades to come. Payouts from the fund have been slashed earlier this year in light of diminishing reserves.
Hopefully the spotlight of attention brought to this matter will encourage members of Congress to do the right thing. We know how they love the camera.
